Birth

A pious lotus drenched with Divine love bloomed at an auspicious and sacred moment on the beautiful land of Kapura. Kapura is a small village located near Vyara in Surat district (Southern Gujarat). It was Saturday, November 13th 1943. The clock read 2 past midnight and according to Indian Lunar calendar it was Vad 2nd of Karthik month in the Vikram Samvat 2000.

Her birth sign was zodiac but she was given the name of 'SAROJ' (which means lotus). What a meaningful name? She has come on the earth to bloom in magnificence amidst the worldly slush and to exhibit the path to blossom for the generations to come.

Maa Sarveshwari hails from the 'Ram-Kabir Bhakta Samaj', established by Saint Kabir and well known for its spiritual heritage.

Family Background

Maa was born into a rich farmer's family.  She was youngest of six children - four sisters and two brothers. Her mother's name was Bhikhiben and her father's name was Kalidas. Her mother was simple by nature and looked after household while her father was into farming. Her father was an ardent Ramayana fan. He used to wear Khadi (a cloth made using charkha) following the Gandhian principles.

Love for the motherland was imbibed in her whole family. Her eldest brother Vitthalbhai went to the jail during India's freedom movement. Congress Party leaders used to frequently stop by at her house. During the 'Bhudan movement' (Donate Land) run by Vinoba Bhave, her family donated generously their farming land. Her elder sister Shushilaben, later received Presidential award for the best teacher.

Education & Job

Maa Sarveshwari's schooling was done at Vyara and college studies at Surat. She used to stay with her elder sisters at Vyara, close by her village Kapura during her primary school days While at Surat she used to stay at her friend's house.

She was brilliant in her studies and was awarded 'The Umashankar Joshi Prize' in college. She also secured a Gold Medal for obtaining first position in Bachelors of Arts with Gujarati as a principle subject.

She joined Sadhana Vidya Bhavan, Surat as a teacher but very soon on account of her resourcefulness, intelligence and dedication, was appointed as a Principal of the school. She performed the duties of Principal in both the shifts of the school without disturbing her spiritual routines.

First Acquaintance of Yogeshwarji

It was 1970 December when Maa, for the first time had an opportunity to listen to Shri Yogeshwarji's discourses at Sanatan Seva Sangh Hall in Surat. She actually learned about the lectures in a daily newspaper and was impressed from his very first lecture. Thereafter, she earnestly attended Shri Yogeshwarji's discourses. Either due to her pre-birth samskaras or due to Yogeshwarji's nectarine speech, Maa soon established him as her spiritual guide.

Year after year, unfailingly Maa attended every lecture of Shri Yogeshwarji held at Surat. She also participated in all seven day spiritual meditation and sadhana camps held in different cities of Gujarat. Through letters and personal question-answers, she seek guidance and inspiration about her spiritual progress. She read all the books of Shri Yogeshwarji and tried to understand every word of it.

The first acquaintance of these revered saint grew into an intimate spiritual bond and she established Yogeshwarji as a venerable deity in her heart.
