Life without Food & vow of Silence

The intense fervor for her revered master did not let her body accept a single food grain after Yogeshwarji's departure. YES, 18th March was the last day she had the last dinner with Yogeshwarji before proceeding to evening lecture. Thereafter, she started arduous penance and continued only on fruits and milk. Maa's divine soul transcended her body and mind. Since last 15 years, she observes NIRJALA (takes literally nothing besides breathing air) on at least 108 days of a year!

Maa Sarveshwari had practiced to perfection the vow of silence during her stays at Maun Mandir (Temples of Silence). She used to observe silence in seclusion for certain number of days every year. But finally in 1995, she decided something exceptional. She resolved to put her words to rest. A more powerful medium of silence attracted her and she forever took the vow of silence. Devotees were stunned as now, they would never get a chance to listen to her melodious tunes. Being a good singer, a good orator and having a huge number of followers could not deter her. What a resolve!

Pranam - a unique offering

She also started a new way of offering reverence and devotion to Yogeshwarji, her spiritual master. She composed and started performing PRANAMs (stretched prostration at the lotus feet of a master). Year after year she broke her own counts by doing higher numbers of pranams. Today, her routine consists of 275 pranams.

People are amazed at her incredible physical powers when they see her performing more than 2000 pranams at a stretch in public on special occasions like Yogeshwarji's or on her own birthday & other festive days. In her own words, "It is an opportunity for us to ask for forgiveness, to express our indebtedness at his lotus feet. It is not only a physical exercise, but a form of prayer and a mental dialogue with the divine. By pranams, we have to fully surrender ourselves to the divine and along with all our worries and responsibilities."

Pilgrimage to Dashrathachal

What's the need to visit a pilgrim-center for a person who herself is one? Yet, for Maa Sarveshwari, every place where Yogeshwarji stepped is a pilgrim center and worth a pious pilgrimage. In May 1992, she decided to walk barefooted in the scorching summer heat to the sacred mountain of Dashrathachal - the place of Yogeshwarji's penance along with 8 other devotees. >>> Slide Show

Being barefooted, her delicate feet started bleeding bringing tears to devotees' eyes but she was in exalted mood and enjoyed every moment of it. In her own words, "No penance is without sufferings and this one is for my beloved master. I would be more than happy to devote my body on my way to Dashrathachal. I am enjoying summer in my feet but I'm having spring in my heart and I'm feeling the incessant rain of his grace in this state of blithe."

In Yogeshwarji's own words:

"There stands TIRTH at thy lotus feet,

in fact, all the Tirths of the world.

In thy body are rivers and streams,

an abode of the blessed.

Thy every limb and every atom,

every vibrations and every breath

thou art the form of Tirth.

All Tirths are born from thy supreme Tirth."
