Yog Kaushal

On 3rd and 4th May, 2003 Swargarohan was abuzz with activity.  The reason? To commemorate 60th year of Maa Sarveshwari, Sarvamangal Charitable Trust arranged 'Akhil Gujarat Yogasana Competition at Swargarohan.

Under the able guidance of Shri R. J. Jadeja, 161 children and youths from all over Gujarat participated in the competition. Participants were divided into three groups as per their age: 4-10 years, 10-14 and 14-17 years. The Asanas were also divided into three categories depending on the level of difficulty and according to their age group, participants were supposed to perform them for certain time period : Group A (easy) - 60/30 seconds, Group B (tough) - 30/15 seconds and Group C (difficult) - 15/10 seconds.

The winners were recognized with handsome prizes. At the same time, all the participants were given handful of gifts and a to and fro fare from their home to Swargarohan. The love and affection of Maa as well care of devotees present at Swargarohan touched participants, who later described Swargarohan as "The heaven on Earth".  Detailed article about the competition are included in the June issue of 'Adhyatma'.

Shri Yogeshwarji was an accomplished yogi and Yogasanas formed part of his daily routine. Maa herself practices yogasanas daily.  Today, when the interest in Yoga is diminishing in the younger generations, the competition was a welcome move.  It not only encouraged those 161 young participants but inspired the children present at Swargarohan to imbibe yogasanas in their daily life. People in western countries are fascinated towards our ancient old tradition of yoga. Hopefully, with competitions like Yog Kaushal, younger generation of India will regain their interest in Yoga.
