Shivkumar is an
idealistic and a talented painter. For him, painting is worship. Kashinath
– his Guru is an ideal master. He not only teaches Shiv kumar how to paint a
painting but how to be an extraordinary human being. He imbibes in Shiv
Kumar high morals and values. His philosophy is highly noble - An artist
earns money with his art but that should not make money as art’s principle
aim.
In the words of
Kashinath ‘For an artist, art should not merely be a mean of self-pleasure.
Rather, the art should become an instrument in awakening the soul of the
people and in spreading noble thoughts. It is meaningful only if it benefits
the society at large.’
The story starts from
Delhi and moves forward in famous Himalayan cities like Dehradoon, Rishikesh
and Mussoorie. As with any artist, Shivkumar had a dream of having his own
chitrashala – a painting school. Overcoming human attractions, material lure
and sensual temptations, he ultimately realizes his dream. Vengeance,
abhorrence and hatred however, turn his dream sour. An intentional and
premeditated fire turns his chitrashala into ashes. AAG – the Gujarati word
for fire, thus become turning point in the life of all the involved
characters.
Shri Yogeshwarji’s
novel - ‘Aag’ is all about resisting temptations coming on way of life and
yet marching forward on the righteous path.
