One of the most pure and unblemished relation in the world is that of a
brother and sister. In Hindu culture, the love of brother and sister is
expressed by tying ‘Raksha’ (A cotton thread) on the ‘Rakshabandhan Day’.
Those who are not brother and sister by blood relation also tie rakhi and
express the purity of their relationship. The word ‘Raksha’ also mean to
protect or to shield.
This novel, entitled as ‘Raksha’ tells a story about such relationship. Ami
is a young, idealistic, collegian girl and Shashank believes her as her
sister. With the passage of time, Shashank’s mind gets changed and he no
longer sees Ami as his sister. Ami on the other side continues to believe
him as his brother.
Ami also encounters two people with altogether different personality –
Narang, her dance teacher and Sachchidanand, her Yoga teacher. They two
depict good and bad side of human mind. Narang’s mind is filled with
filthiness while Sachchidanand see his late daughter in Ami and hence has
special love and affection.
Will Ami change her mind or will she succeed in changing Shashank’s mind?
What will happen to her brother-sister relationship with Shashank?
In the present age, where relation of brother and sister are taken for a
ride and under the label of such relationship purity is not honored, the
book ‘Raksha’ provides inspiration for the righteous one and a note of
caution for the others.
