environment at the prevailing time and the thoughts of an author on the
events as well as future outlook. It is well known that the letter
collections of great personalities like Gandhiji have inspired lot of people
and have served as torch-bearer for many.
Shri Yogeshwarji wrote most of the letters contained in this book during the
years of his Himalayan stay. The struggle that Shri Yogeshwarji underwent
and the hardships that he faced during the long and arduous Himalayan stay
are vividly painted in these letters. Thus they contain lots of detail about
his spiritual achievements, his divine experiences and planning for the
advancement on the path of divinity. It also has invaluable messages and
directions for the spiritual aspirant. Some of the letters have also
captured Shri Yogeshwarji’s thoughts on uplifting the society and the
country as a whole.
The letters covers issues such as Yoga, Pranayam, the importance of purity
and faith, the power of prayer, thirst for the almighty, divine love, the
aim of human life, the importance of solitude in the advancement on
spiritual path, celibacy, issue of previous birth etc. Some important social
topics like issue of marriage, love for the motherland and the independence
struggle have also found place. Some letters depicts his pilgrimage to the
places such as Dakshineshwar, Amarnath etc.
Most of the letters were addressed to Narayanbhai Jani, Shri Yogeshwarji’s
classmate and long time associate and some to Bhailalbhai. Apart from that
some of the letters are addressed to Mataji – Shri Yogeshwarji’s mother. The
book also contain a letter written to Swami Shivanand asking permission for
Yogeshwarji's stay at the ashram and the reply of Swami Shivanand.
These letteres were written way back from 1940, when Shri Yogeshwarji’s age
was just 19 to his years in Himalayas up to 1955. That’s why these books
serve as an ideal guide in understanding his step by step advancement on the
spiritual path.
