Shri Yogeshwarji

(15 August 1921 - 18 March 1984)

Shri Yogeshwarji

Birth

Mahatma Shri Yogeshwarji was born in the small village of Saroda on August 15th 1921. It was almost the time of sunrise and according to local Indian calendar it was the 12th day of the bright half in the lunar month of Shravan. His birth sign was Sagittarius and accordingly he was named as Bhailal. His father's name was Manilal Bhatt and his mother's name was Jadavben. Rukhiba, his grandmother used to live in the same house.

His parents weren't much learned but they were very kind hearted. His was an average brahmin family. The financial condition of his family was quite ordinary and like others living in Saroda, agriculture was their main occupation. Saroda, situated on the banks of the river Sabarmati is located between Ahmedabad and Dholka in the state of Gujarat, INDIA.

An unexpected tragic blow struck his family when Yogeshwarji had just turned 9. His father died of smallpox, leaving behind Yogeshwarji, his two sisters and his mother who was hardly twenty-five at that time. As if this was not enough, within a fortnight of his father’s death he lost his younger sister. A shadow of deep grief prevailed in his family. At that time, he was studying in fourth standard.

The divine’s wish was to take him to Mumbai where he was granted admission to Lady North Cot Hindu Orphanage.

From Shri Yogeshwarji's autobiography

“It does not seem to me that I have taken birth anywhere. But having said that, nobody should infer that I was born miraculously or that my body came into existence on this earth without taking the support of any human being. I do feel however that there is a vast difference between my present body and the body at my birth. I feel as if a total rejuvenation or evolution has taken place."

-------

"Experienced saints are of the opinion that sadhana changes the atoms of the body and mind. I haven't undergone such a severe penance, yet I have been experiencing that my body has totally transformed and my mind totally metamorphosed. I feel that my body has undergone transmutation through rigorous sadhana. That’s why there is no such bond or affection that I generally should have for my home, birthplace, mother, sister or any other worldly relatives. It is neither a sentiment nor a figment of imagination but a true fact. I know that it is very difficult for others to understand it, yet I am presenting what is reality."

-------

"I am neither a Yog brashta soul nor an unaccomplished Yogi as referred to in the Gita. I am only a little child of God and I would like to be known as such in the future.”

-------

"I consider myself extremely fortunate at having taken birth in a farmer's family, who used to run his household honestly. I have stopped cultivating the land that I had inherited from my forefathers. I am not in possession of farming articles such as bullocks, carts, plough etc., yet I haven't ceased to be a farmer. God has handed over to me another form of farming. Now I do spiritual cultivation on the soil of life with the plough of restrain and faith, rain of devotion and sunrays of knowledge to achieve the harvest of peace and realization of God."
