Shri Yogeshwarji

(15 August 1921 - 18 March 1984)

Shri Yogeshwarji

True pilgrim

Yogeshwarji's yearning for the realization of the Mother's grace continued. During those period he visited number of places across India. Beginning from the sacred grove of Shantashram in the holy Himalayan abodes of Devprayag he traveled to the Rishikesh, Chandravadani, Almoda, Mussoorie and Badrinath. During August 1951, Yogeshwarji accomplished a difficult yatra of Amarnath. He went to the famous pilgrim places like Nasik, Rameshwar, Madurai, Kanyakumari, Jagannathpuri, Bhuvneshwar, Alandi, Bilkha, Dehu and Virpur. Yogeshwarji also attended the famous kumbhmela at Haridwar.

Yogeshwarji visited innumerable places of pilgrimage. Noteworthy among them are Shirdi - the place of Saibaba for whom he had special affection; Dakshineshwar - the place of Ramakrishna Paramhansdev whom he assumed as his childhood idol; Sakori - the place of revered Upasani Maharaj and Godavari Mata;  Radhakant Math - the place where Chaitanya Mahaprabhu spend his last 18 years; Alandi - the place of powerful Saint Gyaneshwar and holy places on the banks of river Narmada like Sisodara, Malsar, Chandod-Karnali, Gangnath and the place of Kuber Bhandari.

During his pilgrimages, Yogeshwarji came across variety of people; magicians and hypocrites, saints and sages, extraordinary souls and selfless fellows. He observed the true and false side of the religion as well as the glimpse of the whole country. Some of the incidents that took place during those days were significant such as at Madras, Yogeshwarji completed the rendering of Shivmahimnastrotra in poetry form; at Kanyakumari he met a magician sadhu; at Alandi, Gyaneshwar Maharaj blessed him with his darshan and at kumbhmela he came across a canadian Mahatma etc.

A serious illness struck Yogeshwarji during his stay in the lonely forests of Himalayas. He had fever and loose motion. Mataji was frightened as his body became cold and profusely perspiring while his breathing became feeble. His consciousness was almost gone. Mataji wanted to call somebody but whom could she send to call? Who would look after her son when she went down the hills to call a doctor? Yet the all-merciful Divine Mother send some people at the place and medical help was made available. The fever and pain in-all, lasted for twenty-one days. He started taking liquid food after fifty days. From the jaws of death, it was a kind of re-birth for Yogeshwarji.

It goes without saying however that during all these days, Yogeshwarji's yearning for the grace of Mother Jagadamba remained unabated.

From Shri Yogeshwarji's autobiography

“The Ganges and Himalayas have attracted and inspired spiritual seekers from time immemorial. Especially during the rainy days, the Ganges and Himalayas looks unprecedented charming. Added with that, the ancient saga of this wonderful and extraordinary region always captivated my heart. Look at the holy and purifying Ganges, which is flowing incessantly since the ages. Where can you find even a little sign of fatigue or disappointment? She urges the travelers on the path of spirituality to proceed without stopping for a while. She is like an inexhaustible source of hope, enthusiasm and inspiration."

“Many such experiences or the relation with great souls have taken place in my life till the date by the grace of God. But, among them the one with Saibaba is a special one. Saibaba himself was a great, powerful and liberated soul.  It is known that Saibaba breathed his last on the day of Dushera in 1918. He said that after his departure his Samadhi would answer and fulfill the wishes of the devotees.  After his departure these words were proved true as many people experience the assurance. I consider myself extremely fortunate that such a great and powerful saint had cultivated relationship with me."
